This painting was part of 17 self-portraits Bryan he done whilst experimenting with his medication. Medication helps to stop symptoms of Schizophrenia and help people to cope with daily life without the worry of symptoms arising. The "Self Portrait Series" was exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery in 1992. In 2015 "Bryan Charnley: the art of schizophrenia" was the inaugural exhibition at the Bethlem Museum of the Mind.
